Why we can't have anything nice

So almost a year ago, Perry came into our lives. Shortly after Halloween he started hanging around our porch, dining at Ches Ridgedale. He was a good tipper, always meowing his praise and lavishing me with kisses. After surgery to remove the injured portion of his tail, he moved in as our forever cat. And it has been bliss every since.

For him.

He's quite active and it's been a while since we've had a kitten (or perhaps teenager) in our home. He's a good boy, but he's into everything! He sneaks lettuce, or any other produce, that is drying in the sink. It's not uncommon to find him noshing on a strawberry, his white chin stained pink. He spills his water because he believes, mistakenly, that you can drink with your feet.

But his newest trick has me perplexed. He loves toilet paper. Apparently, a roll on the, well, roll, is the devil's playground. He shreds it! So we got wise to his antics and started keeping the roll of paper on the counter. Thus far, he has left it alone. Problem solved. After a few months incident free, we decided to try moving back to the "in the holder" way of life. And this is what I came home to on Saturday morning.

"If I turn my back, maybe she won't know it was me."

Perry demonstrating his talents.

He looks quite pleased with himself.

He has other tricks too. Like his recently discovered penchant for Q-Tips. I don't know HOW he developed a taste for these, but then again, I'm not sure what started his obsession with toilet paper either.

"Ah, so THIS is where she keeps them!"

"Come to me, my little pretties!"

Of course, you notice that when Hubs caught Perry trying to help himself to our supply of cotton swabs, instead of intervening, he broke out the camera. The little feline later moved on to the cotton balls in the glass jar in the other bathroom. So we now must keep all paper products out of his reach. What an industrious animal! Lately, he has also expressed more than a keen interest in the faucet. He watches intently, as if memorizing the steps, when we turn the water on and off. I keep waiting to come home to a flooded bathroom!

And if you are wondering why there is a chair in the middle of the hall, it's keeping the door to the air conditioner closed. Because Perry has figured out how to open it and likes to spend time exploring the furnace!
