I've experienced this before. After my very first half marathon in March of '07. I trained for months. Early morning runs. Late nights at the gym. Giving up eating out for my entire training. Tracking my progress. Living running.
And then the race is over. I got my medal. I accomplished my goal; to finish.
Now what?
I've run 2 halfs in the past month. I have another in just under a month. And then...nothing.
I'm already feeling a sense of loss...and my training isn't over yet! I was talking to my peeps after running class tonight and started to get sad. White Rock is almost here! What is wrong with me? I'm looking for a couple of 5Ks for January and February. I want to get my time down. I ran exactly 3 miles tonight (I drove it in my car afterwards) and my time was 29.30. And that was an easy run. I can totally PR and finally be under 29.
I need a goal! Isn't that crazy? I still have another half to run in December and I'd like to PR with that one. My goal is under 2:20. That's a pretty adventurous undertaking considering my best time so far has been 2:26. That's almost 30 seconds a mile. But this will be a pretty flat race and if the weather is typical of that time of year, should be nice, in the 50's. I see no reason not to finish with a 2:teen!
So I'm off to on-line shop for a cute pink hat because I think that just might be the secret to a PR. What do you think?
