This past week I returned to running. But not just back to running from a week long break after the marathon. Back to my old schedule. Back to basics.
Oh, and it felt goooood.
I trained with a local running store and for the past 6 months I've been following their schedule. This week I totally reclaimed my running.
And it felt goooood.
Michelle and hit the trail M-W for 4 miles each and F for 5. Tuesday cross training and Thursday rest. (on of my favorite days!) And then what I've been waiting for. The Saturday long run. 9 glorious, leisurely miles. Lucy joined us (first time I've seen her since May!) and we left from my house. My house. That means I was able to sleep until 8 minutes before the girls were to arrive. Bliss.
It feels so good to be running for me again. (me, me, it's all about ME!) While I'm very goal oriented and totally motivated by a training program... as you know, a first marathon is life consuming. That's all I thought about and talked about. It's what I was running for. And this past week, I was just running to run.
And it felt so gooooood.
I've signed up for the WR half on Dec 13th, but not following a rigorous program. Just started with 9 miles and will work my long run up by only a mile each week until I get to race day 13. Taking this one easy.
I saw my doctor again on Friday and she gave me several exercises to strengthen my quads. And other areas. I'm sure in my life I've been called weak @ss. Turns out, it's true. I do inded have a weak @ss. To be fair, she used the more medical term of weak gluteus medius. I'm excited to get healthy and hopeful this will cure my angry knee and hip. I'm looking forward to 2010 and setting some PRs!
And because I don't like to blog without at least one photo...I started my hardcore Christmas shopping this weekend and you can imagine my delight when I saw that the tree at the mall is up!

This entry made me crack-up! Mostly because I've been diagnosed with the EXACT same weak @ss problem! lol
ReplyDeleteI felt kind of sad when they told me that's what my problem was. I know I don't have much of a butt but really!?!?! Now I just laugh about it! :oP
Ha, ha! Oops, sorry for laughing at your problem but it just sounded so funny, the way you explained it. At least you can do things to improved that weak area and the results are always stunning, right?!
ReplyDeleteSorry, the tree with lights is just a few weeks too early for me but...I do love shopping!!
I love that there is a technical term for week a$$! LOL weak gluteus medius? who knew? I bet it feels nice running for you and not thinking so much! Way to go on shopping, I always say I am going to start earlier but then it's Christmas eve and I am shopping for everyone! lol
ReplyDeleteso glad that you're feeling recharged (running wise at least!).
ReplyDeleteYay! You are so lucky! I'll never take being able to run AT ALL for granted again. I was also looking forward to running, for running's sake, again, when I got sidelined...hope to get back to it soon!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are back in the saddle! And that you are strengthening your saddle....:)
ReplyDeleteI need to do some of the same thing: strength training on my legs & ahem, saddle.
CHRISMAS!!!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back girl! Marathon training is VERY consuming so I feel your pain all to well!
ReplyDeleteGood luck working it all out! LOL!
