Falling in Love

"Fall in love
and be forever changed."*

This was the title of an e-mail I received this past week.  Surprisingly it wasn't SPAM.  Although Google seems to be on to my sitch, as it keeps putting ads for dating services on my home page.  Uh, Gmail, stay outta my love life, I can manage on my own, thankyouverymuch!

Manage quite well it turns out, because I've been actively looking for a new love.  List in hand of qualities I simply will not compromise on, I've trolled on-line sites devoted to exactly what I'm looking for.  (there's a site for everything!)  I've talked to friends to see if they could hook me up.  I've checked Craigslist, yes, even Craigslist.

I thought I knew what I wanted.  Turns out I was so wrong.  I was looking in all the wrong places and for all the wrong things!

"But you know, the thing about romance is...(they) only get together at the very end."

My eyes glazed over, I could barely make out the words he was saying.  My pulse quickened, I felt a catch in my throat.  A huge dopey grin began to spread over my face.  I was vaguely aware of Lucy nodding her head excitedly, whispering, "Go for it!"  I trust her judgement.

So I did.

Before I knew it, I was lovingly escorting this handsome thing to my backseat.

What?

I've been admiring road bikes for quite some time.  Basically, it's all Katie's fault; she so dang inspiring.  I'm looking forward to learning all I can and I have a lot to learn.  (like, I had no idea that bikes aren't sold with pedals.  PEDALS!)

I don't normally name inanimate objects, but this time I couldn't resist.  Helen Wills.  (go ahead, say it out loud)  We've already been on a few "test rides" together. Saturday I put about 20 miles in the saddle and Sunday the same.  I fully understand this is a starter bike. The mechanic told me if I liked cycling I'd be back in a year wanting a lighter, faster, better bike.  But for now, Helen and I shall be quite happy together.

Of course, I'll keep my jank fest for off roading and popping curbs. A girl doesn't forget her first love afterall.

  4. You had me there, silly girl! I'm "looking for love" as well...even looked on Craigslist...although I'm looking for one that stays indoors so we can watch TV and do our thing. It's cooler and safer that way. Wish me luck!

  5. Haha I totally thought you were talking about a handsome man, but I was questioning the looking on Craigslist. New bikes are fun too!

  7. It's love! Will it be spending the night in bed with you tonight? Cause that's where my true love stays. This one will never let you down (and is always ready for... ahem, a good ride.)
    Welcome Helen Wills!
(Alternate name after a few rides, perhaps, "Maya Certs")
