Welp, I'm signed up for a trail 50K for Nov 12. And I'm on the fence. Why?
1. There's a duathlon the next day that I'd really like to "du." It's probably the last road duathlon of the season. I know I can't run 31+ miles then race a du the very next day.
2. Plus, I JUST raced a marathon, hard. Not sure if running that high mileage so soon afterwards is smart idea for my recovery.
3. Because, I have another marathon (road race) two weeks after that. While I was originally not planning on racing it...I'm a little high off MCM and would love to try and replicate that.
4. However, When I was at mile 22 of MCM I thought to myself, "I have NO interest in doing this again in two weeks!"
5. But, I won't be racing a trail run, I'll probably run a 12 min mile or slower. And it would be fun to hang out with everyone and complete another 50K.
6. But, it would also be fun to be on my bike again...the duathlon is a sprint so I feel my legs would be ready to race such a short distance.
7. So...I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
Sigh.
What's next for you?
I have a Thanksgiving 5k race and then the Hot Chocolate 15k in DC on Dec. 3rd. There is a cross country style 8k this weekend that I feel like I could do but I got sick after MCM so I should probably rest and recover completely. It's only 5 miles but it's a very difficult/hilly 5 miles.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your decisions! The du sounds like the better option to me.
I vote for the du if you're planning to do a marathon in a few weeks after (WR?). I think that the du sounds fun, plus, would it be an automatic PR?? Sold!
ReplyDeleteAw, shucks...I gotta say I'm jaded on this one. I'm running Rockledge 30K. Could you drop down to the shorter distance? You're the only one who knows your body, so I wouldn't discourage you from the 50K. Go with your heart! Trails or bike, trails or bike? That's a toughie. : )
ReplyDeleteI have nothing on my plate right now. I would like to sneak a 10K in before Dec 31st, 2011 though. But right now, I am just resting the knee since it tends to have troubles if I go all so gung-ho with running right after a half.
ReplyDeleteIf you had taken it easy at MCM I would say go for the 50K and the next marathon but I think since you raced so hard at MCM you should really give your body some recovery. You definitely don't want to risk injury. Biking would have a lot less impact on those important legs of yours! And what would Hal say? ;)
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion though!
10k on Nov 27. I wish I had your high mileage problems!
ReplyDeleteYou are seriously a racing machine!!! Up next for me is a Thanksgiving run and a 5k in a Santa suit....oh yeah I know how to party!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a cyclist so you know what I would pick. :)
ReplyDeleteMy vote is the du! Save those legs to replicate the marathon high! Of course I'll be cheering you on from Houston regardless of which you choose! =)
ReplyDeleteThat's tough, I know how hard it is to not do a race for SMART recovery reasons.
ReplyDeleteI'd nix the du.
I think the trail sounds good if you plan to take it easy like you said.
But, please listen to your body.
