So you know how I was trying to decide if I should run the 50K at Cowtown or downgrade to the half? Yeeeeaaaah, well, the deadline to switch passed before I even started to think about that. So 50K it is! I plan to take it slow and enjoy the day. Who am I???
Saturday we had a little baby party for Coach Swimmifer. I can’t believe a week from now she’ll have a new baby and we’ll find out, boy or girl. She looks incredible and I’m so excited for her. Selfishly, I’m also excited to get my training partner back, ha! And it’s not just me, she asked her doctor if she could walk Cowtown (20 days post delivery) and her doctor shut her down before she could even finish her sentence. Runners!
Later I mosied over to the bike shop to look, again, at aero bars. Once again they tried to talk me into the really pricey carbon ones. Uh, yes, hello, look at me. Now, look at my bike. Like putting lipstick on a pig, putting pricey carbon anything on us. Then they say, “It’s all personal preference.” Well, how can I have a preference if I’ve never used them before? Seems like every decision to make lately is just entirely overwhelming.
(I don't know why this photo insists on loading sideways...the file isn't sideways, blogger, grr)
I’m trying to balance training for this looming 50K and a few other distance races I have coming up. I don’t want my training for either one to suffer so that’s been a trick. I did manage to get in my first long run since Houston. (Which makes it sound like forever ago instead of two weeks ago.) Got in 13.5 miles and a duck looked at me through the fence. So I call that a win.
Before that I managed an hour on the trainer and after my run a little over a mile in the pool. Can you say worn out? At the end of the day, after three good meals, I still had a 1,900 calorie deficit. But my tummy was full of Brussels sprouts! So, hunger woke me up at 3 am and I had a spoonful of peanut butter and a few gulps of chocolate milk. First thing this morning I inhaled Greek yogurt. I cannot cram enough calories in my cake hole after weekend workouts!
It’s really a trick keeping up with nutrition in a healthy way. I mean, I might have stopped at Southern Maid this morning. And I might have inhaled blueberry cake and chocolate glaze donuts (yes plural, no judgies) on the way to work. I know the occasional treat is fine but let me tell you, healthy fuel is not nearly as filling as crap!
What are your go to foods to refuel? What keeps you fuller longer?
Also, if you follow me on Twitter you know that Sunday night, I petted a pair of track pants that were folded up on a chair, thinking it was my cat. Blind much?

My go to is chocolate milk but I agree that crud is much more filling than healthy foods!!! Nice that you petted your pants!!
ReplyDeleteOatmeal is my go to meal! Mix oatmeal, egg whites, cinnamon and brown sugar ... you'll be feeling full and healthy! www.dashingdiva.net
ReplyDeletewell I guess Cowtown made that decision for you huh? If you go into it with the "slow and enjoy" attitude, you will be fine.
ReplyDeleteBefore I started all this running and tri stuff I thought ramping up mileage and whatnot would be the hard part. Turns out food is the issue. It is hard not to devour everything in sight (good or bad) after a crazy training weekend. If only I had a personal chef and a padlock on the refrigerator.... sigh.
I love that your friend wanted to walk Cowtown. I feel like that is something I would try to do (if I ever have children).
ReplyDeletemmmm chocolate glaze.
ReplyDeleteI see ducks every single day. They are all over this area since we have a lot of water {ponds and creeks}. I saw a duck and a mallard hanging out today dipping their heads in the water. I like watching them :)
ReplyDeleteChocolate. Glazed. Donuts. Oh yum. I'm drooling!!! LOL.
My go-to food for refueling is eggs or a smoothie with soy milk/spinach/banana. Smoothies keep me full for a looooong time :)

That's so crazy that you can do a 50k that seems effortless to me, but I know, I KNOW, it's got to be hard and tiring. Good luck with it, enjoy it! Can't wait to read about it!
