Sare Bear and Hot Latina. And oh my, it was indeed hot.
Me n Shabby Princess. Notice I'm like 11 shades darker than her and it's only March.
It's going to be another brown summer for this Pink Girl.
Today however, after a delicious breakfast of caterer biscuit, I donated blood.
I eat 2nd breakfast at the caterer way to often. She sees me coming and has my biscuit ready.
The sight of blood does not bother me. Needles don't bother me. My low blood pressure however, doesn't appreciate this activity. I (usually) pass out. Ice pack on my neck, Lara bar in my paw and Better Than Ezra on the iPod, I managed to remain conscious. Success! What silly head wears a pencil skirt to donate blood?
Later, I had plans to meet Shabby Princess for lunch. Only due to unforeseen thievery, she was unavoidable detained. So In N Out solo. Sad pink panda. It's a grilled cheese, not meat, so don't get excited. Cept it's not really grilled.
Wednesday nights are typically pool nights. I had 2600 yds planned. Only I kinda sorta remembered the phlebotomist telling me no vigorous exercise for 24 hours. Not that my slow pace in the pool qualifies as vigorous...but I consulted the internets to see what I could find. And most resources agreed that I should treat this as a rest day. Sigh.
Sokay, I'm ready for a really big weekend of workouts! Friday is a big swim day. Saturday I'm heading to the lake, rain or shine, for 20x3 on my bike with a short run in between. Sounds like fun, yes? Yes! Sunday I've got an OWS planned followed by another few hours on the bike. Then, as Drum says, taper like a madwoman! She's right, my body is still tired from my 50K two weeks ago so I'm going to make this taper count.
If there's one sport I'm good at, it's resting!
Do you give blood? Does it wear you out like it does me?

Dude. That picture of us makes me sad. I'm so white, it's shameful. I need to spend more time outside and get some color. Show off.
ReplyDeleteI missed you today! Stupid thieves.
Don't be jelly, it's totes unnatural to be this dark so early! Dang Cowtown tan.
DeleteEvery time I try to give blood, they block me for various reasons. Been out of the country, had a baby, ate too many onions. I have not been able to donate in more than ten years. Sad. Maybe it's time to try again.
ReplyDeleteHave fun tapering and kicking up your feet for a change!
I'm still kinda drooling over your grilled cheese and fries. I swore off fast food this month and I'm grumpy. :o)
ReplyDeleteI used to give blood a lot, but it just takes so much time that I just don't have! I swear, I need to drive 50 minutes to get to the donor place (red cross) THEN it's like another 90 minutes before you are out of there! And that's if no one is waiting! the stupid questions they have you answer.
ReplyDeleteSome random local donor place (not red cross) held a drive once and I was in and out in 35 minutes!! Now that's my kind of donation!
I want to be brown in March!! Not going to happen unless I hit the fake and bake!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for donating blood! I think it's really important to give what you can-I've been on the Bone Marrow registry for a few years now and I'm also an organ donor. These things are really important to me :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I give blood the techs always look at me like I'm going to pass out-maybe I turn grey? I don't know but I ALWAYS feel fine and they're always so worried!
I hate giving blood! Though that last time I had to have some taken, it was pain free and so easy. The nurse was amazing! The time before that, I puked after. So for that reason, I have never donated blood. But good for you for doing so!
ReplyDeleteJealousy isn't a good thing, but I am jealous of your tan and wearing shorts on your run! It's been nice here, but definitely not that nice
Resting was a good choice. I try to donate blood, but my iron is usually too low. The last time I was able to, I passed out.
ReplyDeletedang that biscuit looks good! I give blood every so often and pass out about half the time. My blood pressure is freakishly low, hmm, never made the connection with that being the reason for passing out. Makes sense. I learned something today :)
ReplyDeleteFor the longest time I thought my penchant for getting tattoos disqualified me as a blood donor. I was told tattoos had to be 12 months old before you could donate. This isn't 100 percent true; depending on which state you got the tat and in which state you're donating, the waiting period varies. Regardless, it's been too long since my last blood donation (and tattoo).
ReplyDeleteAnd now I'm wondering if you travel the U.S. donating blood!
DeleteYour weekend sounds really fun actually! An open water swim! WOOOOo !! Good luck, I know they can be a little scary at first, but you're a crazy tough pink girl!
ReplyDeleteI used to give blood every time I was able (every 56 days or whenever my iron level was high enough). I don't do it as often now and refrain if I have any races soon after but I do it about once a year (still occasionally have too low iron levels). I have nearly passed out a few times. I have to make sure I've eaten enough prior or else I get woozy.
ReplyDeletei'm like you, i must watch the needle going in! doesn't bother me, just a strange thing i must watch. i used to dontate 3 - 4 times a year, now twice when miles are lower. i'm so hungry afterward!
ReplyDeleteyour training is going awesome!!! i love reading about your swimming!
